Abstract

The objective of this research is to compare and analyze breast size from various perspectives, such as physical size and perception of the size, and identify how users expect to change their breast anthropometry by wearing an everyday bra. Forty-five females are invited to an onsite measurement session. Their breast sizes are evaluated by body scanning and they are given a short questionnaire asking about their personal opinions on their breast size. Each subject is requested to choose a brassiere that gives her a desired effect, and the impact of those brassieres is analyzed. There was a reasonable agreement among cup indicator, breast volume, and subjective judgment. However, cup indicators were limited to capture breast size in a general sense, but could not be effective enough to assign an exact bra size to an individual. Participants’ subjective judgments coincided with breast volume. After wearing the brassieres, breast volume and full bust girth significantly grew. Bust points were relocated inwards and upwards. There were statistically significant effects of breast volume on these anthropometric changes.
